Rod Wilkes (Uncle Rod), Chef and Dietary Consultant
Rod serves at OMARR as Chef and Dietary Consultant. He obtained his Chef Certification at Algonquin College Ottawa. In addition to Rod’s experience at Artic College as a cooking instructor he has spent most of his career as a Youth Officer and Chief at the Baffin Correctional Centre. At the Centre Rod also taught Basic Life Skills, Food Safety and Preparation, and supervised individuals in the Kitchen Workplace Program and Outdoor Activities Program.
Taking into account OMARR’s holistic recovery mandate, Rod accesses each individual client’s dietary needs. He is keen to produce a diet that is nutritional, healthy, and appetizing to people in recovery. Both in and out of the Kitchen Rod’s optimistic personality and sense of humour make OMARR clients feel right at home. Shortly after Rod joined the OMARR team a client affectedly referred to him as ‘Uncle Rod’. The nickname caught on and is with him to this day.
